Rātā Medical was established in 2015.

Who we are

Dr Mike Mawdsley is one of the original GPs who established Rātā and has subsequently been joined by Dr Jo Tooby , Dr Claire Olsson and Dr Sam Haslam.

Sam took over the care of Dr Vivien Edge’s patients in August 2024. Vivien will continue to work at Rātā over the next few months.

Dr Claire Buchanan joined us at the start of 2022, as our Associate GP.

Dr Sarah Richards is our GP and skin doctor.

Dr Charlotte Bonny, our other Associate GP, is currently on maternity leave (2024).

As well as our six GPs we have five Practice Nurses, six Receptionists and a Practice Manager; a wealth of combined experience.

We aim to be inclusive. We welcome individuals at any age and stage of life. We seek to provide a friendly and happy environment in which to provide care for you.

General

• Rātā is located in central Nelson with our own car park.

• We provide General Practice services to enrolled patients and casual visitors (where appropriate).

• we work closely with the Nelson Bays PHO (Primary Health Organisation) to enable access to a wide range of other Primary Health Services.

• Primary care is supported by the secondary services at Nelson Public Hospital. We have strong lines of communication for referrals, advice and advocacy on your behalf in the wider health system.

• Purpose built health centre .

• Spacious rooms and a pleasant environment to visit and work in.

• A light and airy waiting room with comfortable seating and plenty of reading material.

 Convenience

• Rātā Medical is conveniently situated in central Nelson at 127 Collingwood St.

• There is ample patient parking.

• In the close vicinity are two pharmacies, Pacific Radiology (within 100 metres at 105 Collingwood St), and Awanui Laboratory Testing (two blocks away at 63 Collingwood St).

For fun

We often fly a flag, usually relating the choice to some National or International event. People enjoy trying to guess!
